Oakwood East Newsletter

January, February & March 2007

Annual Meeting: This is a reminder of your annual meeting scheduled for January 18, 2007 at 7:00 p.m., Midwest City Community Church of the Nazarene, 10200 S.E. 15th Street. Further notification will be sent with your annual assessments in December. The marquees will also remind you as the date nears. All homeowners are members of the association and have one vote per household, provided they are current with their assessments. Please come and exercise that vote. You can review and ask questions on the budget and proposed projects for the year; and other important matters of interest will be addressed.

Directors and Officers: Periodically we have a vacancy for Directors and Officers of the Oakwood East Homeowners Association. This is a community service position. Directors’ do not get paid for their service. Please call Gracie at (405) 769-4966 if you’re interested.

Street Parking: Please be careful when you park your vehicle on the street. We must be concerned about access for emergency vehicles and obstructing other’s ability to get in and out of their own driveways. This is getting to be a big problem due to each household having multiple vehicles.

Involved Residents: We commend and appreciate the residents that involve themselves in the care and keeping of our community. Recently a situation occurred with someone running a remote control toy motor boat on the pond. Several people were fishing and were disturbed by the noise and action of the little gas powered boat. Under our convents there is provision for situations such as this under nuisance. If a problem such as this happens again please get the offenders tag number and kind of vehicle so a letter can be sent advising them of our covenant rules. Call Gracie at (405) 769-4966 with the information. Pond/Playground area is for residents to enjoy and it should be a tolerably quiet and peaceful area.

Identity Theft: Affluent neighborhoods, like Oakwood East, are the most popular targets. You can read about this in-depth on web site http://www.comsumer.gov.idtheft/. Basically someone can steal your identity by co-opting your name, social security number or credit card number. In short, identity theft occurs when someone appropriates your personal information without your knowledge to commit fraud or theft. The thieves use the information to open credit card accounts and bank accounts, and to change your mailing address. The bills then go to the new address, and you may not realize there’s a problem. You can help prevent this by shredding all personal information before discarding it.

Garage Doors Left Open: The crime statistics at our monthly meetings also reveal that unattended open garage doors invite crime. You see plenty of doors open when driving through our neighborhood. Sometimes only teenagers are home and terrible things can happen if an intruder sneaks in. If a thief drove through our addition and found no garage doors open or other easy access into our homes, there would be much less crime in our area.

Draining Your Swimming Pool: Notice from the MIDWEST CITY NEWSLETTER, Oct – Dec 2006 Issue, enclosed in your water bill, and informs us it is against the law to drain swimming pools into the street or storm drain. If you have questions about how to drain your pool you can call Stormwater Quality at 739-1352.

Unwanted Paint, Pesticides, Automotive Products: Midwest City residents can bring unwanted paint, pesticides, automotive products, and misc. chemicals to the Stormwater Quality Management office located at 2425 South Douglas Blvd. Those interested in disposing of their waste MUST call and make an appointment to drop off any items. Items that are received in good condition, that can be reused, will be issued upon request FOR FREE!!! To make an appointment for disposal or to get additional information, please contact: Stormwater Quality Management at 739-1352.

Complaints: Any complaint received by the Board of Directors is taken seriously. For instance, if there is a complaint about a boat parked in a driveway, we take note of how long it has been parked there, the violator is notified by phone or in writing of the offense and asked to remove the boat. If not moved in a timely manner further action is taken involving our attorney. Our covenants have been upheld in court, and it is costly to the few who refused to comply. We try to be as flexible as possible with any resident when there is a problem. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to get a situation corrected. Please be patient in the event you have asked to have something removed from the neighborhood.

Stay-at-home moms: We received an inquiry asking if there are other stay-at-home moms who are interested in getting together for socializing and coffee. If so, please contact Kelly Brown at browntm01@aol.com

Our Website: The purpose of our website http://www.oakwoodeast.com is for posting our covenants and any information the neighborhood would be interested in. Some things are corrected or completed by the time a newsletter is out therefore all findings may not be noted in the newsletter. For instance, the dirt piled on Lakeside is for building a home in the future. Several have inquired about the dirt and we want you to be informed and update on our OEHA projects.
